MISTI's PAGE

Misti is a beautiful, tri-coloured Brown Marble Bengal. She shows a really luxurious, glitter-dusted, shiny coat of golden, dark and tawny browns with the touch of the finest velvet. She is a very sweet natured and affectionate cat who loves to make her bed high up in cupboards, wardrobes and shelves. As a result of this I have had to place her personal cat sofa on top of the kitchen wall units and from this vantage point she has a good view of both the bird table outside and the preparation of all food in the kitchen. Smart cat!

Both she and her brother have a very natural cat life and, with no threat from traffic, their territory is very extensive as there are no other cats in the vicinity. She can come and go through the cat flap as she pleases and usually stays within a ten-acre radius. Trained to the whistle, she will drop what she is doing, wherever she is in the area, to come home when she hears it. She is a very accomplished hunter and most days will top up her diet with something ‘fresh’! Unlike most Bengals she is not fond of water, preferring to jump the stream rather than paddle through it. Contrary to this, she thinks nothing of going out hunting in the pouring rain, which is rather a shock when she crawls into my bed sopping wet!

When she was six months old, Misti was spayed. What should have been a routine operation ended up going disastrously wrong. Misti lost one third of her blood and spent twenty-four hours on a drip. She was not expected to live. When she came home I put her in a pen in the sitting room because she was wearing a lampshade collar and I didn't want her brother or the dogs to disturb her. I slept on the floor next to her for a week so that I could monitor her progress. I hand fed her a special liquid diet mixed with liver, an iron rich food to get her red blood cells up, and little by little she found her strength to gradually pull through. Two weeks later she was up and about chasing her brother around the sitting room as though nothing had happened. 

At the age of six months Misti, whose GCCF registered name is Admilsh Shantarini, began her show career and she proved to be very successful and much admired. She was Best of Variety Foreign Neuter a the Westcountry Cat Club show in 2001 and Best In Show Neuter in 2002 at the Bengal Cat Club show and we came home with three cups! She was also the very first Marble Bengal ever to be awarded an Intermediate Certificate. Misti is an exceptional traveller, settling down in her carrier without a murmur for the whole of the journey. On many occasion she was so quiet that I wondered if I had even remembered to put her in the car! She was shown for just over two years and during this time her achievements were: -
